Severe competition, and the entry of large-sized Korean manufacturers into Korea’s LED industry, is set to spark a wave of consolidation as SMEs seek reorganization in order to survive.

Citing an unnamed industry source, a report from E-Today news service this week, stated that an increasing number of companies among the approximately 2,000 South Korean market players involved in light-emitting diode (LED) manufacturing are expected to look for reorganization, such as mergers and business tie-ups, as a measure to strengthen their competitiveness.

The item stated that the large-scale entry of Korea’s leading companies, including Samsung, POSCO, SK and LG into the industry has led small to medium-sized enterprises in the country to seek business consolidation and reorganization to survive in the industry.
